Or “what’s up, pumpkin?” We visited our neighbors to the south today on our second trip this week! We started the afternoon by talking about Mexico and learning some Spanish. We even paired up and tried to figure out what some Spanish words mean in English. Ask your kids if they know what “hola,” “por favor,” and “madre” mean in English.
After we learned a little bit about Mexico and Spanish, we played Mexican Kickball. We found out that Mexican Kickball is not at ALL like the kickball we play in the US! The kids were put into teams and had to race to finish kicking a ball through an obstacle course. It was not easy, but it was a lot of fun!
After a break for a snack and some free time, we had a Chili Pepper Relay Race. Despite the name, there were not actual chili peppers involved! Campers got into teams and had to pass their “chili pepper”–a playground ball–through their legs and over their heads. We learned that teamwork is definitely the best way to succeed at that game.
We ended the day with a game that was a hit: Conejos de la Suerte, or Good Luck Bunnies. In this popular Mexican children’s game, kids run around with bandanas in their back pockets and a tagger tries to pull their “tails” out of their pockets. Once a bunny loses its tail, it becomes a tagger until everyone has been tagged. We were all exhausted at the end!
Tomorrow, we will travel to France! We are hoping to do an activity with bicycles in honor of the Tour de France, so please send your kids with their bikes and a helmet if possible. Have a great evening!
