The end of the games

It was a fun day, we had a few different events today for our Olympics. Wheel barrow races were first and all of the kids that participated worked their hearts our for the event! Then we had hockey, but not normal hockey. I had them use pool noodles as sticks and a ball as the puck. It was pretty funny to watch them attempt this! Then we had a non-traditional game of “keep the balloon off the floor.” Each team had 2 balloons to keep of the floor, but they had to stay in their designated squares. It was a great competition!   The winning team of the events will be announced today! Don’t forget, we also have our picnic at 5:00 at Smithfield park unless it is too hot outside, then we will have it in the basement of the community building. I will provide the hamburgers and hotdogs, just bring a dish to pass, and your entire family!!...

Kiai

Today our special guest, Mr. Palmer from Infinity Martial Arts, was there to show us some of his martial arts skills and teach us some skills as well. It was super fun to see the kids enjoying this new skill. I tried a few of the jumps, kicks and other skills as well. He did a great job with the kids and gaining the mutual respect in such a short amount of time. We also shared so many of our different hobbies we like to do. We had so many different interests in our group; gymnastics, softball, hotpads, wrestling and so many more.   Don’t forget to have the kids wear their t-shirts tomorrow and please be on time for our bus tomorrow to go to the Children’s...

Backyard games

Hey all! Today we played backyard games. We had twister on the grass, it was spray painted on and that was by far the favorite game we played! We also had a tic-tac-toe game where they had to throw sponges of to mark their spot on the board. Another game we played I dont have a name for…yet. There were two teams of two and they had to hold a volleyball between each other facing back to back. They could not let the ball drop on the way to the finish line. That ended up being fun as well.   There was a volleyball game and lots of other fun games going on at the park yesterday! Thursday we will have an Independence day theme happening with more crafting going on, so all those crafters out there better get...

Indoor Camping

Greetings Summer Rec. Families! Most families have experienced what Beth and I experienced today. We had planned out a big camping adventure for the kids and then we saw that the forecast called for rain all afternoon. We decided to make the best of our situation by bringing our tents inside. The kids loved to see the gym gradually get darker as we hung blankets over all the windows and as we brought out the projector. The big surprise came when Beth and I brought out our tents and let the kids set them up inside. We projected a movie onto the stage and the kids got to relax in the tents with blankets and sleeping bags. Over the Hedge was a hit and so were the homemade rice krispy treats (thanks parents for all your support with snacks!). At the end of the day after running out our energy the kids made indoor smores by blowing the marshmallows up in the microwave. All in all a rainy day wasn’t too gloomy, and indoor camping was almost as great as the real thing. ūüôā...

We went to the zoo

Hello families! Today we took a wonderful trip to the zoo! We were all worn out after seeing all of the animals and playing on the playground. A huge thank you to community donations that made a carousel ride and ice cream treats possible for the kids. It was a memorable day and we had lots of laughs and even a few chances to learn things about the animals. We are so grateful for all of the parent and high school volunteers who helped at the zoo. We are all more than excited to see your kids back next week for camping and safety fun! Have a great weekend! -Gabby...
